Why We Can't Sleep?
According to the American Sleep Association without an adequate amount of sleep, "our minds and bodies are unable to perform at their peak. There are several potentially bad outcomes that are associated with inadequate sleep. Sleep influences the immune system, memory consolidation, attention, hunger, mood, response time, and many other body functions."
Kratom can help people sleep if their sleep deprivation is because of anxiety and worry, stress, or physical pain. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Chemist, Susruta Majumdar and Andras Varadi from Columbia University and Sloan Kettering, have reported research results of pain relief from kratom. In a Scientific American article, they claim that "the mitragynine molecules from kratom seem to activate mostly the ‘good’ systems, leaving behind the unwanted effects yet keeping pain relief."

A Few Words About the Kratom Tree and the History of Kratom Use:
Before beginning the use of Kratom for sleep, it is interesting to learn about the tree. Kratom strains are identified by the origin country and whether it has red, green, or white veins. Each country of origin has trees with white, red, and green vein kratom. Southeast Asia is the origin and source of kratom, an evergreen tree that has grown wild in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Borneo, Papua New Guinea, and Africa for centuries. More recent sources have been from Vietnam as well. This tropical evergreen tree is as common to those areas as the pine tree is in the United States.
According to Azarius.net, Asian varieties are grown in tropical and subtropical rainforest regions. African grown kratom is known as Hallea and is grown in swampy areas.
The National Institutes of Health reports that although it may be officially banned, the natives of Southeast Asia have a well-established traditional use of kratom, both in their medicine and in their social culture.
The kratom evergreen tree is a member of the coffee family. Natives have used the root and the leaves for medical purposes for centuries.
The scientific name of kratom is Mitragyna speciosa and is known by other popular names as Cratun, Ithang, Kakuam, Ketum, Krathom, and Thom. Pieter Willem Korthals, a Dutch botanist is credited with being the first person to describe the species in 1839 according to Kratom Guide.
Kratom Strains and Grading Basics:
Many strains are named according to the country of origin, and other strains by certain qualities of the tropical tree or the alkaloid content of the product. Products are branded and named by companies who are marketing kratom varieties.
Red, White, or Green Veins:
The white, red, or green veins refer to the color of the central veins running through the leaves. Each of the kratom tree varieties has all three of the colors. Sometimes, the different colored veins are present on the same tree.
Red vein kratom leaves produce more sedative qualities, while green and white have a more energizing effect.
The kratom tree is rich in alkaloids. Mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine are the main compounds, and there are more than 25 other alkaloids in kratom. When consumed this bioactive material enters your bloodstream. The alkaloids interact with cell receptors within your body and send messages to your sympathetic nervous system. The receptors in your system will respond.
Kratom has become quite an enigma for users, scientists, and regulatory agencies as the debate rolls on. The centuries of kratom use by natives of Southeast Asia cannot be ignored. Kratom first came to America from soldiers who had used the substance in the Vietnam War. Since then kratom use has become popular in the United States and for a good reason. When used with knowledge under their belt, kratom has been effective to relieve physical pain, stress, and anxiety.
Kratom Grading:
The Kratom industry has not established a set standard for grading, but the industry tries to follow a loose set of guidelines. It is graded according to the method used to harvest and the alkaloid content. The Commercial Grade is the weakest potency. This is followed by Premium Grade, then Super Grade, Enhanced Grade, and finally, Ultra Enhanced Grade which is the strongest.

Be Mindful of Legal Issues:
The Amerian Kratom Association is a non-profit organization committed to the safe and legal use of kratom. They keep updated information on every state's legal position on kratom use and have a list of resources to keep you informed. Their website is a great resource and beginning point for anyone who wishes to become an active advocate in their state.
The FDA attempt to make kratom a Schedule 1 Substance was largely due to deaths in Sweden wrongfully attributed to kratom. Actually, the deaths resulted from ingesting adulterated kratom products, the use of two or more psychoactive drugs, and other health-related conditions.
Scientists Weigh In On the Kratom Debate
Scientific evidence does not show that kratom is dangerously addictive and has the same qualities as classic opioids. Scientific evidence does show that kratom alkaloid levels are not dangerously addictive and do not have the same pharmacological effects that damage the respiratory system of classic opioid use according to AKA Policy Report of December 2018.
A pharmaceutical scientist at High Point University study confirms the complex nature of kratom. Dr. Scott Hemby, Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences claims their research reveals no possibility for addiction from a moderate level of mitragynine in kratom and that it actually decreases opiate consumption. Their research also demonstrated that 7-hydroxymitragynine which is in kratom at much lower levels does have significant abuse potential and might boost other opiate use.
This video produced in 2018 features a presentation by Christopher McCurdy, Ph.D. He is a recognized expert on the scientific study of kratom and has found promising therapeutic applications for kratom.
A Kratom Fact Sheet 2019 published by the American Kratom Association in January 2019 reports that similar to the caffeine addiction of coffee drinkers, kratom users may develop a mild addiction, but that the natives of Southeast Asia have been using kratom for a very long time without reporting any death by overdose from using kratom.
An article published in May 2019 in ACS Publications reports "preliminary research has provided some evidence that mitragynine and related compounds may act as atypical opioid agonists, inducing therapeutic effects such as analgesia, while limiting the negative side effects typical of classical opioids."
Learn all you can about kratom. It is another one of nature's remedies. Sweet dreams!
